Development features
A perennial crop, with a well‑developed root system (up to 2.7 m long). It is predominantly a steppe plant. Sainfoin prefers neutral pH, does not tolerate water logging and soil acidification, withstands drought. It can grow on poor soils with underlying stones and gravel, does not tolerate prolonged flooding. It is insect‑pollinated, including by honeybees. A valuable plant, producing a nutritious forage with a high protein content. It is cultivated in the field and forage crop rotations in southern regions of the country. A melliferous plant
