Lentils
Lentils
Canada is the world’s leader in lentils accounting for 60% of the global production. Russian climate is similar to Canadian conditions in many respects. Based on multi-year trials, EkoNiva-Semena has selected varieties bred by the University of Saskatchewan, a leading centre of advanced genetics and superior lentil varieties.
The company’s portfolio features small-seeded lentil varieties with grey seed coat and orange cotyledons. All the varieties have a short growing period (70–90 days) and are well adapted to both northern and southern regions. The crop is more drought tolerant than peas and other large-seeded pulse crops. It is an ideal predecessor to all cereals and a lot of forage crops in crop rotations due to its capacity to fix nitrogen from the air and accumulate it in the soil.
